Why Crayons & Callings?

So why Crayons & Callings?

Being a mommy of a teenager and a 1-year-old who is going on 25, I’m pretty much all over the place physically and mentally. From girls scouts, band recitals, school/daycare drop offs and pick ups, after school activities, working… just for beginners. To being an awesome wife (if I should say so myself haha!), church, traveling and supporting my husband in ministry, and more. I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember and through many signs that have been shown to me, especially as of late, it’s time that I get back into it. I’ve been “busy” for such a long time. I’ve been helping everyone else reach their potential while overlooking my own. You always hear people say you need an accountability partner. Well, I look at this as sort of my Accountability Blog.

I am questioned all the time from family and close friends that know that I write and they continually ask why I’m not doing what I am called to do which is writing and authoring books.

Lately (and always) God has been blowing our minds with the many opportunities and doors that He has been opening before us. Praying for one thing and He not only blesses that to come to pass but gives us more than we can ask, where WE are given options to choose from!

Over the years I have accumulated numerous notebooks with writings and ideas placed all over my house. In desk drawers, closets, bathroom counters, my purses and my car even. If you were to look on my side of the bed, you will see little sticky notes. On the bathroom counter I have some as well. My handsome and patient husband just reaches over them or pushes them to the side (ha!).

My 1-year-old just so happened to be roaming around our bedroom on one of my off days being the little explorer that she is. I noticed she got quiet; a little too quiet. I looked over and she was using her crayons to color in two of my notebooks! In these notebooks, I had story ideas dated back to 2014 that just came to me during a 12 hour family car ride to Texas when she wasn’t even a thought yet :). But she attempted to color and draw all over my ideas. I thought about getting mad, but then I thought again… I haven’t done anything with the ideas in this notebook since…since! (my oldest girls’ favorite saying she made up). Honestly, I wouldn’t even be able to justify getting upset. She saw the opportunity to grow her skills and put her thoughts on paper, and she took it!

Why is my calling, my purpose tucked away in a drawer year after year? God has called us to be disciples. He has a purpose for us and in walking in our purpose, He is cultivating someone else’s purpose and so on. Even if what we are called to do brings one person to Him, He is pleased. I believe He used my baby girl and her crayons to call me back to what He needs me to do. I am a firm believer in people having a gift and if you don’t use it, God will surely give it to someone else to cultivate. Talking with my teenager while writing this, I told her that I’m not too sure about telling people that I have a blog. She got me together real quick with these words: “Mom, what’s your purpose in writing if no one see’s it”?

These words brought me to the scripture, ‘And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony‘- Revelation 12:11. We can’t allow the enemy to destroy the very action of being the light that brings someone to Christ through our calling and our purpose.

So here it is… Crayons & Callings…despite our ‘busy’, remember we have a calling.
